HAINZL supplied a total of eight water cylinders and one replacement cylinder to our customer Andritz Hydro SA (Switzerland) for the modernization of the Guatapé hydroelectric power plant in Colombia. The cylinders control the main inlet valve (shut-off valve), which regulates the water flow to the turbine and serves as a safety and shut-off valve.

As these were replacements for existing cylinders, HAINZL had to adapt the new components precisely to the existing installation dimensions while also bringing them up to the latest state of the art. The hydraulic cylinders were specially designed for water-based operation. Therefore, only high-quality, corrosion-resistant materials were used. The cylinders were calculated in accordance with the American standard “ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code.”

In order to meet customer requirements, rigid piping with rotary distributors was implemented on the bottom side of the cylinders instead of conventional hoses. This solution increases the durability and operational reliability of the system.
